Vin is on block

Good morning and thanks for having me in your group, I recently acquired some either 396 or 427 blocks with one having a vin number on the block
T1007EJ6Z108727
Block number : 3855962
Hi Perf stamped
Heads are 3872702’s D56 and D266
So my question is how do I identify whether they are 396 or 427, and what does the vin number do for the block?? Thanks in advance, I have two of these blocks, one without a vin, can’t find or see it.

Re: Vin is on block

EJ big blocks were 66 or 67 396's. 962 blocks were 65 or 66 396's.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.

BIGOT is a word used by people that can't use logical reasoning to prove that you are wrong when you don't agree with them.

Re: Vin is on block

The VIN on your block tells you it's a 66 vehicle, built at Freemont CA which built Chevelle (1964-1969, 1973-1975)
El Camino (1965-1969) ,Monte Carlo (1973-1975)& GMC Sprint (1973-1975).
The 108727 is the plant sequence number.

Re: Vin is on block

the EJ suffix code is a 396/360 with a 4 barrel carb, manual trans, AIR (K19). From a Chevelle or El Camino. the assembly date is Jan, 7th. what is the casting date?

Just offered as a clarification: The "T1007EJ" is the "date assembled and projected use" code that was stamped on the block at the Towanda (NY) Engine Assembly Plant. That code breaks down as follows: T = Tonawanda, 10 = October, 07 = the 7th day of the month, and EJ = 396 CID, 360 Horsepower, with a Manual Transmission. Therefore the engine is a 396 CID.

The partial VIN: "6Z108727" identifies a 1966 model year Chevelle built at the Fremont (CA) Final Assembly Plant. 6 = Model Year, Z = Freemont Plant, 108727 = the 8,727th Chevelle built at the plant in the 1966 model year. The partial VIN should match up to the VIN on your Chevelle/Title Card/etc.

Re: Vin is on block

Yes, Chevelle 396/360HP assembled OCTOBER 7 1965, not January 7 1966.

Also note that 66 Chevelle 396/360 engines used the 962 4-bolt main block prior to December 19 (or 20, can't remember which) of 1965. So you have a more desirable 4-bolt block there.

Re: Vin is on block

The Chevelle this engine came from (108727) was probably assembled around the second week of November 1965, 11B.
