cleaning the shed and got to looking at a 454 sitting on a stand. there is no suffix code.
only letters and numbers are
C 8 B 1 1 3 1 6 5. pts a 959 block ,cant get to look at the casting date. jim
That is the partial VIN of the (1978 Chevy) truck it was originally installed in. Look above the timing cover on the semi-circular machined pad for the date/suffix code.
Thinking back about 1978 and 250 HP doesn't sound too bad compared to the offerings that were available back then. The trick would be to click off the right options off the list when you're buying your short bed P/U in 1978.
But Chevy came out with the same idea a couple years later right ?
if I remember, it's a 2 bolt main. I asked about this motor a few years ago. I did a compression check cold and only got 100 to 110 psi out of the cylinders. it's got 781 heads, with the manifold off I can see a cmdouble roller chain. insides very clean. i was going to use it in some future project as is, just havent found a project to stick it in. jim
definitely a 2 bolt, had the pan off years ago. jim
