Decoding engine help please

I have a 72 Chevelle I just bought 2 weeks ago. The front of the engine side has a stamp one of the letter or number I can't tell if it's a B or 8. What I see is CBB112761. The first B is what I can't really see clearly. My VIN is 1D37F2R519445 Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Decoding engine help please

Your car originally came with a 307 cubic inch engine. I can tell by the F in your vin.

Thank you for that link! Wow... kinda feel robbed now though only 215hp smh. Seller didnt mention it was out of a slow truck. It sounds mean but now I know why it feels slow when I kinda punch it from a roll. From a stop it spins and feels nice but I guess that's a given. I attached a photo of the "mods list" he said about the engine. What's your guys opinion on it?

Most 454ís came out of trucks, their original power output is irrelevant once they are modified.

If you have 4.56ís those are a bear to drive anywhere but around town. If you have a fuel cell, make sure you have a metal partition separating it from the interior of your car.

Somehow I still feel cheated, but I need to do more research on these cars/engines. I guess I'll have to start looking into how to get more HP out of this engine. You are correct. I only drive it around town. Just going 45mph it's already kinda screaming at me. As for the fuel tank it is still the factory one under the car.

Re: Decoding engine help please

I would suspect that the engine is somewhat modified if it is able to run well with that 850 cfm carb on it. If it is stock inside a much smaller carb would be more appropriate.
