1970 Chevelle L78, engine assy. date stamp

I think I already know the answer to this question, but here goes anyway. I am doing my home work on a , supposed to be original drive train, 1970
L78 Chevelle, M 21 4 spd, CKK axel. California built, 12A. The problem is, the engine, witch bears the correct partial VIN, ( and wat look like orig. broach marks)
is dated 12 -16 and the trans is dated 12-17. ( also VIN stamped) I have heard they did some weird things in CA. , is it possible that this engine, and trans, witch were both built after
the body, could be original to this car? Maybe something to do with the holidays? BTW, the axel date is 10-7, frame date 10-31. thanks, Dave
I will attch pics of block stamp, next post

How can you see the broach marks with paint on it?

The 2 numbers matching Van Nuys '70's I've had the vin was down by the oil filter, not on the pad.

Check here..........The casting in that area is rough like the block and the numbers will be stamped in the rough.

Thanks Al, You no, rather than waste any more time on this counterfeit L78, I think I am going to just move along. One of these days a nice original SS 96 will come
my way. Thanks for the knowledge guys, Later, Dave

Re: 1970 Chevelle L78, engine assy. date stamp

99%sure 12A is too late for an L78 anyway. LS6 would be the solid lifter car for that date.

Couple of junkers and a few clunkers.
