Hurst shifter mounting location

I've got a 68 and I'm converting it back to a 4-speed (previous owner converted it to an auto). I bought an m-21 and a hurst shifter. I mounted the shifter on the rear mounting location on the trans. Now I can't shift into 2nd or 4th because the handle hits the console. Console is in the stock location. This may be a dumb question but, Should I have a different shifter with shorter rods mounted in the forward location?

You can check what you have at mrgasket.com, there is information as well as what is contained in the correct shifter kit, copies of the original instuctions as well.

Re: Hurst shifter mounting location

the Chevelle Camaro Nova Hurst shifters normally mount in the forward position on the Muncie trans. The Corvette shifters mount in the rear position.
