Post VIN list - Fencl Tufo hipo Chevy's

Thought some of the Chevelle folks here might like to check out this VIN listing that Was posted by Kurt S over on Team Camaro and Frank over on the Yenko site. Frank located this paperwork and the rest is history. There is a mixture of Chevy Models (Camaro/Chevelle/Nova/Vega) as well as Years 1968 thru 1971.

Its my understanding these cars are anything SS350 and faster. Hope someone here has one from the lest and can get the paperwork from Frank.

Fencl Tufo Chevrolet was a hi-po Chicago area dealer. Some paperwork from the dealership still survives. This is not a complete list of F-T cars, just the 1969 hi-po models that someone saved paperwork on. If you have a car that's on this list, I can put you in contact with a person who can help document your car.

Kurt Hope you dont mind me changing your post around to include the info that Frank posted over on the Yenko Site. Frank posted more VINs of different models from the above dealership

Moderators, Please leave this in the regular discussion forum for a week then please relocate it with a sticky in the Misc. Dealers section.

I had KurtS from CRG post these for me on the Camaro site and Hawaiian Jeff linked them here so I finally got off my a$$ and made the whole list.

Fencl-Tufo Chevrolet was a Chicago area dealership located at 414 E. North Ave. Glendale Heights, ILL. They were a high volume dealer and sold thousands of cars including MANY Hi Performance Chevrolets while in business from late 1968 till the late 80's. The Chitown famous "Mr. Ed" of Brigance Chevrolet later became the New Car Manager there from 1970 till the late 70's and the dealership was known for selling MANY Hi-po cars including 6 Yenko Deuces and some Vegas. The paperwork on many of these cars was salvaged from the dealership by an employee in the 1980's. This paperwork consists of ONLY dealer/factory documents. The person who acquired it at that time was afraid to take papers with the purchasing customers private info on it like bill of sales, financing contracts, etc. (To bad....) The paperwork is VERY cool and can consist of just a dealer order form to a whole packet including window sticker, factory invoice, POP(very few have this), car shipper, etc, etc. I will list the vins by year and car. If you have a car on the list or know of one then e-mail me at [email protected] and I will get the paperwork reunited to the car.

I'm curious about the Draggin Deuce. What is the story on that Nova?

I worked part time at Fencl-Tufo in the early 70's. (Bought my new 72 Monte while I was working there) They did have some hi-po cars come through there but I don't think they were ever considered a 'hi-po dealer' such as Nicky was. Remember, back then every Chevy dealer had their "high performance specialist" that you could sit down and order a car from the ground up with. The Schoenthaler brothers were in the upper levels of the dealership at that time, and they now own Crossroads Chevy in West Chicago, Illinois. Maybe some contact with them could be enlightening. Ed Schoenthaler (the taller of the two) was an enthusiast, and a really nice guy. In any event, it's a pretty cool find.

Bruce,

The 'Draggin Deuce' is shrouded in mystery. No one seems to know much about it. It was drag raced here in the Chicago area in the early 70's, and has vanished from the radar. Everyone just keeps hoping that it will surface, but no one seems to have any solid leads

Don,

Certainly Fencl-Tufo did not have the high performance heritage that Nickey did, but selling Yenkos put them a notch above most other dealers in the area. Many smaller dealers had little or no expertise at selling hi-po cars. "Mr. Ed" Schoenthaler recently spent some time at one of the Chevy-Vette Fest shows at McCormick Place, talking with people about the old days at Brigance Chevy and Fencl-Tufo. I bought a new Z28 at Fencl-Tufo in March of 1973, and just sold it a few years ago.

Thanks, for the information Bill. I had that VIN checked in Arizona, there is no record of it here.
