Project Basket Case

Hey guys, I know it's Been a while but I finally got another car.

1966 el camino. It's been painted, has tubular control arms front and back. Previous owner said he has every nut and bolt for the car but we shall see.

It is 100% disassembled.

Plans:
-reassemble car
-drop 454 in it
-m20 with a conversion.
- billet specialties street lites

I know ill be needing a bunch of pointers.

Enjoy some pics!

Thanks,
Rich

Re: Project Basket Case

I believe the previous owner documented the build up to this point. Check out this thread: https://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=380065

Is this not the same car? Small world.

It appears you are correct.

I plan to make fast progress on this car.

Brett was great to deal with and I'm sure he will follow the new thread.

Thanks, and I will.

Today's goal is to get the parts out of the car and organized.

Re: Project Basket Case

Thank you!

UPDATE: I have my paint and body guy coming over today to evaluate the paint. My hope is that he can touch up come chips, and maybe wet sanding to cut down the orange peel.

After that I'm having a window guy install the windshield and back window, and ill install the side glass.

Love the first picture. Looks like 90% of the projects I've brought home. Kind of funny to see the same chaos in someone elses garage. Have fun! Looking forward to seeing your updates!

Re: Project Basket Case

Thanks. This is my first project like this so I'm a little nervous of the outcome, but I think if I just take it step at a time it will come together.

Re: Project Basket Case

Small but noteworthy update. Quickplates came out today, did a vin verification, title, and reg. oh and YOM plates!!

I have a little rust in the front windshield panel I'm debating on wether to throw the windshield in, or cut and replace it and have the paint patched in.

Re: Project Basket Case

Looks like a great start!

Just keep up the motivation! If you have any questions feel free to ask. Heck, I'm right up the street from you in Moreno Valley.

With that bright red paint it should catch a lot of attention. Especially with some killer wheels and nice stance.

Re: Project Basket Case

Tore the front end apart today with intentions of painting in order to make it look pretty. Well that changed. The ball joint boots are all ripped, the LCA bushings are in bad shape. The pervious owner didn't install them very well. And everything was dry, no lube for install.

The good is that there is drilled and slotted rotors!

So I'm ordering the broken parts to replace, as well as all new steering, and bbc frame stands. Everything will get a nice gloss black coat.

Does anyone know what kind of frame mounts these are? They look like home built.

Also, does cpp sell just the ball joint boots? Or is it new joints for me?

Re: Project Basket Case

Do you have any idea why the previous owner gave up?

How come he reinstalled crappy parts like that?

Re: Project Basket Case

My best guess is that when he installed the arms, he marred the bushings, then sitting without an engine and grease pinched the dust covers on the ball joints.

It's a lot cheaper to fix than buying new global west arms!
