1966 Chevelle V6 build

Iíve been posting misc items and asking questions for a few years now and my build is a running driving car now so I thought I would post a thread about it.
Here goes....
First pic is the original 283 2-barrel and Powerglide coming out.
Second pic is the new LFX V6 engine/6L50e 6 speed auto trans as it arrived.
Third pic is where I had to cut the inside of the K member out to clear the pan.
Forth pic is the frame boxed in and with a 1/4Ē bottom plate.

Re: 1966 Chevelle V6 build

The sides of the LFX block are parallel so I built a wood box to duplicate the engine. A lot easier to handle.
Second pic is the box with the original Camaro mounts sitting on the original a Camaro subframe. This was just a double check.
Third pic shows the two sides on the K member are 90 degrees apart.
Forth pic shows that itís 45 degrees from block side to frame.

Engine sitting in position. Exhaust down pipes with catalytic converters fit perfect and even lined up with the crossmember.

Re: 1966 Chevelle V6 build

I had to cut the trans tunnel out because the 6 speed is HUGE. You can see the piece I cut out on top of the trans.
I then lowered the body back onto the frame to check fit.

Re: 1966 Chevelle V6 build

I wanted to use the stock Chevelle floor shifter so I had to figure out the throw.
I made my own detent plate once I figured out how far the shifter needed to move to shift the trans.
The shifter mounts to a small kick out on the side of the tunnel.

I like it, very interested in how this will run. The best part is the choice of engine, it will raise an eye brow or two. I like the idea of modern power in old body, this should surprise more then a couple of guys thinking 6 cylinder, big deal.

Life is too short for caring about every bodies else's stuff

Re: 1966 Chevelle V6 build

Once I got the body ack on I decided I didnít want to see the ECM so I had to extend the home run. I used the correct color combo and gauge for every wire. All soldered and shrink wrapped.
4 relays and fuses controlled by the ECM.

Re: 1966 Chevelle V6 build

I cut and re-directed the upper radiator hose connection which allowed a simple all rubber ďSĒ.
Lower hose has a size change in the middle because I just couldnít find the right combo.

All of your work looks great. Looking forward to seeing more.

Tighten it till it strips and back it off a quarter turn.
