70 ls5

So couple of years ago I found a 70 Chevelle SS on Craigslist for $2400. I was sure it was a scam but it did have a picture of the car, needed paint and add said missing engine. It wasn't a scam. Car has been sitting in this guys garage for over 12 years. Other then the missing engine its complete. After some research turns out its 1 of 249 built in Canada. The Canadians were nice enough to send me a book containing every part # that was on the car from the factory. They also sent me a certified letter stating its a 1970 LS5 454, Muncie M22 4 speed. Tag on the cowl also shows the M22 Z15 option. So its time to get it on the road. The car has been stripped, sandblasted and off for body and paint.

Re: 70 ls5

Back in 1978 I came across a 454 SS Chevelle in hayward CA. It was a 4 Speed LS 5 with a dented front right fender for $1200. I wanted it, dad said no (we had a 68 Lemans driver with a 350) . Wonder where that car ended up? Guy was working at the hayward pontiac dealership on Mission (E14th). Very nice find there!

Definitely a worthy project! What are your plans for it? Going back to original? What color was it? Congratulations on finding a great car to rescue!

Going to keep it as original as possible with the exception of wheels and paint. The car was originally black. Going with Tangelo Orange and black stripe. I don't have the original motor. The car was built in Jan 70 and I have a 454 date code of Oct 69. That's as close as I can find to date correct.

Re: 70 ls5

Have you tried to track down the original engine and transmission? Be worth a shot.

I have everything original on the car including the trans, except the motor. I tried to locate it but no luck.

Re: 70 ls5

Any 454 or bigger BBC would fit that car nicely....550 hp would be nice.

Good luck, and be careful not to let the build get too far out of hand. This crap can get $$$$ pretty quickly. Well, unless you have unlimited capital.

Luckily the car came with all new interior so the only thing its costing me is the paint job and a new windshield.

Could you send it to Mark for a rebuild? Mid 500hp is fun!
