1969 Chevelle SS Build

My wife and I recently got our hands on a 69 SS with the numbers matching 350hp-396 and M20 trans. We are in the middle of having a frame-off restoration done so I thought I'd post of pics of the progress. Our plans are laid out in my garage.

The white primer was done by the previous owner who is now helping us out with the restoration process. We had the body and frame blasted down to bare metal.

For some reason the photos taken by the phone in the first pic do not want to be uploaded in the correct orientation, no matter how I rotate them.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

Here is the frame after the epoxy primer and single stage urethane paint. A replacement rear crossmember has already been purchased and will be installed when the body is ready to be mounted up again. The bent frame flanges have also been straightened, we figured a couple of owners ago somebody jacked the car up incorrectly.

The shocks are adjustable Koni Classics and the springs should be replaced with UMI 1" lowering springs in the next couple of days. All of the brake and fuel lines have been replaced with SS and rubber/PTFE hoses and the bushings are all new poly units from Energy Suspension. We will have a new posi going into the 3.08 rear along with a rear disc conversion in the next week or so.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

That's all the progress that has been made so far so here are some extra shots of the car during teardown.

Hopefully, within the next couple of weeks we will have the body back with all new floor and trunk pans and inner and outer rear fender liners. For the most part, the car seemed to be pretty solid.

Here are some other post-blast body shots just 'cuz.

Also, forgot to mention in the OP (maybe a Freudian slip) that this will be my wife's car.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

Thanks guys! I'm pretty excited about everything that's been done so far but my wife's been jaded by previous project cars so she's a little more reserved about the whole thing.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

Another quick progress update, passenger compartment floor pans are in. The trunk pan had been replaced by a previous owner and the work done was pretty unspectacular so we are re-doing all of that. New inner and outer trunk braces will go in before the new pans. The rear fender wells should have gone in today, as well, but we were given 67's with our last parts order and are now having to re-order those.

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

Love to see another '69 saved and put back on the road! Those pics bring back memories (some not so good!) of my project 20yrs. ago. Good luck! Can't wait to see the final product.

Lookin' Good - Thanx for the pictures!

Man, you have quite the nice shop there. I'd kill for that much room to work!

Re: 1969 Chevelle SS Build

I wish it was my place, but we've got a local fab shop handling the body work. I couldn't bring myself to bastardize an otherwise solid body with my HF welder and lack of skills...
