Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

ordered my paint a couple of weeks ago. came in last night. my wife and i poured over colors for weeks trying to pin down the perfect color. i had an 06 GTO that i painted lambo orange a few years ago and that crossed my mind.

she nixed that idea and im glad she did. we ended up settling on this color from House of Kolor. paint is pricy but its pretty much the best you can get.

Sorry I hadn't replied to this, yes I'm sure boxing the frame would dramatically help. I've yet to do it but it's on the list.

Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

spent quite a few hours scouring the front frame down to metal and grinding flash and all sorts of **** off the stock frame rails and cross member. i called several mobile media blasting places and none of them called me back so i said screw it and did it myself.

Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

my rear wheels came in. i ditched the stock rally caps and bought the police style because i think they look more classy. just waiting on my front wheels to come in and i can get this chassis rolling and get it in for some chassis work.

Car is really coming along, John. That thing is gonna be an animal.

What is up with Photobucket? Those big tags would be a deal-breaker, for me.
Imgur doesn't do that nonsense.

Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

put the rear wheels and tires on to check fitment. its perfect. they will stick out about another 1/4" when the disc brakes go on. this is the EXACT look i was going for so im really really happy. thank you clint for talking me out of 20"s on the front. now that i have them on the car it would have looked really funky.

Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

Kind of late to the party and this may have already been discussed but what ta heck I'll toss it out there.

Why a ladder bar and diagonal link for a Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid type of build?

I'm converting a prior drag car turned pro street into a more street friendly ride. Going to a panhard bar in hopes of being able to live with the ladder bar on the street but that's a bandade at best know others will chime in and say that they have ran ladder bars on the street and love them but they just don't allow the kind of movement a street and especially one intended for pro-touring (handling) duty.

So, maybe I'll be proven wrong, I hope so and I really don't want to re-back half it...

when i say pro touring i mean looks. im not about trying to do an IRS setup or anything extreme. plus, im a drag racer. if i so incline i want to be able to put a set of tires on this and go run 8s.

Makes sense, drag racing is also my preference so I'm hoping my current build will be streetable enough while still being able to tackle the 1/4. I'm shooting for a compromise of street manners and 1/4 mile capability; hoping I can get there with the ladder bars and not having to redo the back half.

Loving your project and looking forward to seeing what it will run.

Re: 64 Malibu SS 1215whp Pro Touring/Pro Street Hybrid

Small update. I am so happy with how this 12 bolt turned out, especially considering the hiccup I had with the OLDS flanges. I went from a drum brake, diagonal linked, 5.14 with a spool, to a Wilwood disc, 3.55 Dura-Grip posi with a double adjustable panhard. If you look closely you can see where we took the SA J bar and cut it and made it DA. I also bought the Holley (Hooker) 4l80 tranny crossmember and a battery tray. The car is ready to go to the chassis shop now for all the tin work and chassis finishing.
