'66 El Camino, 700R4/backup light prob.

Recently installed a 700R4 transmission in my '66 El Camino. Using original column shift linkage. Back up lights now come on when transmission is in neutral and car will start when it is in gear. Can these issues be corrected by adjusting the position of the switch on top of the steering column? Many thanks guys for your input on previous posts, Clyde

There is some adjustment on the switch on the column.
