Re: Engine quits running while driving

Engines need air, fuel, and a well timed spark to run. You need to trouble shoot and see which is missing.

Re: Engine quits running while driving

The fuel tank vent line might be blocked. Sometimes the vent is in the filler cap. As fuel is pumped out of the tank, air has to get in to avoid developing a vacuum. But as others have recommended, first make sure your problem isn't spark related. Does your engine quit suddenly or stumble and then die?

Thanks for all the advice! I'll be looking into a lot of the ideas here soon.

It pretty much quits suddenly, all I noticed was a slightly rougher idle where the revs would oscillate a bit and then shutdown a few seconds later.

As soon as it quits, pull off the air cleaner and while looking down into the carb operate the accelerator linkage and see if you have 2 solid streams of fuel spraying. If yes, then its not fuel related.

Re: Engine quits running while driving

"Could be the ignition module is overheating"

Not likely, as module problems are mostly all caused by layer short failure issues in the ignition coil, NOT the module failing unless it is fully exposed to the heat of the sun beating down on it, and that isn't likely.

And, YET AGAIN, resistance tests of the coil are no longer reliable for any coil other than one that is dead cold, not any heat in it. Remove coil from vehicle, find good auto parts store with off vehicle electronics tester, one that runs coils, put the coil on it, let it run, get it all the way up to operating hot temperature, and let it run for a few minutes.
