Clock shaft came out- 70 Chevelle

Does anyone know if you can reinstall the clock shaft without removing the clock from the dash?

I had to send mine back to Instrument Repair Service in Holland MI, as it was one of their quartz conversions. Dont know on oem mechanical, but pros like them would know.

I have the same issue and assumed I'd have to pull the clock (which is why it's still broken). I'm guessing there's some sort of set screw that came loose and you can only get to it from getting inside the clock.

If someone knows otherwise, I'd love to know -

I always thought they just screwed on. that looks splined/pressed. If it goes back in and almost stays through the hole in the lens, you could try a very tiny drop of removable Loctite and press it back in.

The quartz conversion is pinned in place somehow, so I sent it in. The stick never came out, only got "disconnected"

Originals are splined like the picture. On the back side of the clock face is a spring and a gear. If you remove the clock be careful to not lose the 2 pieces. You can reattach the gear by pressing it back on and using some Loctite to hold it. I found that buying a quartz clock with the ticking motion was a much better approach. Original clocks are usually dead from the winder mechanism solenoid frying.

Thanks for all of the feedback. It sounds like the quartz unit is the way to go. Sounds like I have a winter project.

Shouldn't take all winter. You can remove the clock without pulling whole whole dash if you are careful.
