327 oil pressure drop

I posted this in the wrong place so now I may get it right. My 327 started life with 60psi oil pressure and after about 100mile it started to loose pressure every time I drove it. Now I have 20psi at rpm an idle. Could this be the oil pump pressure bypass spring gone bad ?

progress has little to do with speed, but lots to do with direction

Re: 327 oil pressure drop

Start with changing the oil and filter, work up from there. Some assembly lubes have molybdenum which will plug a filter. If that isn't the cure make sure the gauge and sending unit are good. Eliminate all the simple external variables before you drop the pan and change the pump. In the long run you may be looking at improper bearing clearance but that would be the last resort. Always work from easiest to most difficult unless the problem is obvious.

Re: 327 oil pressure drop

Pressure is constant at speed or idle. Will change the filter first. I hadn't thought of assembly lube being the problem. Pressure went away slowly over hours of run time. All bearings , crank and cam are new and met specs. I really don't want to pull the motor and change the pump.
