Sway bars are heavy - new corner weights

I weighed my 71 Chevelle yesterday and was disappointed to see how much fatter she got.

What I weighed before

3756 lbs with a full tank (~20 gallons stock tank)
1075/1088
802/791
57.59/42.41%

Changes since then:

Rick's stainless steel tank with in tank pump.
PTFE -6 feed/return lines
FiTech EFI
some bigger electrical wires
ProCar Rally seats
Removed some heater hoses
1 3/8 Hotchkis hollow front sway bar
1 1/8 Hellwig rear sway bar
Custom rear weight jacks

3801 with a full tank (~22 gallons)
1040/1094
865/802
56.14/43.86%

The good news is my front/rear weight distribution is improved.

I may need to really start looking at buying lighter parts, and I want carbon fiber so $$$$$$

Without me. Just 135-140 lbs of fuel onboard.

Aside from the big bolt, the weight jacks didn't add any extra weight over the raised spring jacks that were there.

Question Re: Sway bars are heavy - new corner weights

What does your battery weigh? Front or rear mount?

Full size battery, mounted in the front. Probably 30 lbs.

Gotta be that fuel tank then if I'm reading your numbers right. Looks like the weight gain was mostly all in the rear drivers side? Besides 2 more gallons of gas, must be heavier gauge of steel? Heavy fuel pump now in tank?

Re: Sway bars are heavy - new corner weights

The stainless steel tank with fuel pump was over 50 lbs dry, much heavier than the stock tank.

Rear sway bar was 18 lbs
II Much vent and line was probably 5 lbs
Wire and nuts and bolts were probably 10 lbs total.
Front sway bar is 5 lbs heavier than stock bar.
probably 20 lbs more fuel than the last time.

It all adds up.

put a set of Al heads on that thing. drops a bunch of weight all off the front and runs better.

Re: Sway bars are heavy - new corner weights

It usually surprises most car owners when they finally weigh their car.

I also have a Ricks Stainless Steel Tank with the one gallon Sump. True, it weighs 50 lbs. but the stock tank will bump 30, so it's only 20 more. And, it's 20 more where you need it.

Finest full size Tank made.

I'd rather not put money into the 454 as I'd rather build a 509 with all new goodies. Though a the best way to lose weight and gain power.

It appears they are taking orders again. My dream has always been a bunch of carbon fiber parts, so I may have to think of doing this sooner than later. Lots of $$$ and I'd need to think of where I could put the original doors/fenders, etc.
