At the moment 2 long weekends per year one in May and one in September ... 2 passes friday , 4 or 5 on saturday , sunday eliminations ... definitely not enough

Damn Oliver that is Great winning 2nd on your first time out with the new car & Engine

Were you ahead of him at the End of the 1/4 ?

So that it was only the reason you lost was the Breakout ??

Love the way the Bias-Ply Tires Wrinkle on Launch

So does your Tach not have a Shift Light ???
so all you have to do is see it Flash/come ON then you Shift !!

Awesome Job Oliver,
To completely build the car from scratch and go out and not only not have any gremlins but bring home some hardware shows real attention to detail and a little bit of luck LOL

Thank you Greg !!!

yes i was ahead of him , he had very consistent low 9sec car so i was expecting to pass me anytime , he dialed in a 9.4 and ran a 9.7 ... so my mistake for loosing the final first for adjusting the rev limiter , second for changing the dial in and third not breaking on the finish line

i have the shift light and tried on my runs but everything happened so fast in first gear i short shifted like below 5k .. having only a few runs i concentrated more on the launch and thats it for now

Brian thanks !!! i never drove the car not even in the yard let alone the street... we went from the garage to the strip , only gremlin we had was the tunnel ram throttle linkage got a little loose and the idle went crazy so we had to tighten down that and the fuel pump an hose inlet ..

as far as the race the car was vey consistent in eliminations running from 10.72 to 10.75 always , the problem is the driver hahaha

we were very lucky to bring home a 2place and the cup

Good job Oliver! It shows that making a plan for a combo, following it, and attention to detail pays off.

Did you have anyone videoing the launch in slow mo to see what the suspension is doing?

If you are planning to run the trans in D, get a BM governor kit, you can lighten the weights to have the full throttle shift where you want.

Re: El Camino - strip car build :)

Oliver, what were your rear suspension and body mount choices?
Anything you would do different?

Rear suspension is UMI lower and adjustable upper arms , with Viking Double Adjustable shocks , which i had on the Chevelle , the rear stays planted to mid track with the nose up , i tried to stiffen the compression a couple of clicks but i think it blew the tires , maybe i also left at a higher rpm, i did such a few runs i can't really tell what works and what does not yet. My best 60ft were in the 1.55 range so i diald back the compression and left at idle .. this was the most consistent.

we did swap body mounts from stock rubber to energy suspension

Have a routine starting in the staging lanes. Engine at the same temp in the lanes. Routine for turning the fan on and off, which for me once I finish my burn out and come up to stage I turn my fan off.
Do your burn out at the same rpm and for the same amount of time every time.

You wil get your 60’ down, but will need time to play with that. Tire air pressure, and shock settings. I haven’t worked with a rear suspension like yours, just leaf spring car, but Mark and others can help you with that.

I have done this many Times against the Faster Car Guys as they seem to forget
us Slower Runners are just Racing against ourselves / trying to run our Dialin Time

Lost one against a good Race Buddy who Runs in the the hi 10s by Breaking Out by .00012 of a Second
while he was a car Behind me and I should have let off to take the Win in the Semi Finals last year

And I have won a few by hitting the Brakes just before the Finish Line because I was going to Fast vs my Dialin Time

I usually Do Not change my Dialin Time once I start the Elimins unless something changes to the Track Prep
and Never change the Tach Shift Light RPM and I change Gears when it Lights up
this way the old girl gets use to it and of course it also becomes Automatic to me to

I am sure you will get use to the Auto very quickly and will be dropping those 60' Fts down to what you think they should be
