467 Edelbrock Head Build

Recently I built a 467 with Edelbrock heads, I know some of you like these builds with dyno tests.

4.310 X 4.00 467 CU IN, I used a Icon piston with 1/16/1/16/3/16 ring pack, compression was 10.7. A hyd roller was used, 240 @ .050/.610/110/106, with a Morel lifter, Rollmaster timing chain, Straub supplied, Edelbrock 6045 RPM heads were used 100 CC chambers, although the chambers ended up at 114 CC after work, Pac 1.550 dual spring was used with 175/420 pressures, with Scorpion rocker arms. Performer RPM air gap intake with a 1000 CFM AED carb, 1 inch open spacer. I used a Moroso oil pan with a M 77 oil pump, 6 quarts of 10/30 Penzoil, Wix 51061 filter. Total timing was around 38 degrees, 91 octane Shell gas was used.

That's a stout mo-fo!! There was a time when it took a 496 to make 650 HP!!

That's a stunning combination. Thanks for sharing. What's the story behind using the Edelbrock heads?

Re: 467 Edelbrock Head Build

I see them needing tires in the future. 650hp on what looks like a pretty mild 467 is awesome.

Re: 467 Edelbrock Head Build

Simply amazing, Mark.....yet again!! No matter how many of these builds you post, I never get tired of them.

Should you feel so inclined, you could even go two sizes down on the cam to improve idle/vacuum....and still make killer power.

Wow.......and Merry Christmas everyone!!

Thanks for the reply. How cost effective were using those heads versus the cost of you prepping a set of 049/781s? Any other advantage to using one route or the other?

I would have been better off with GM heads, but the Edelbrock heads will make it very pump gas friendly. The amount off work that went into the heads was ridiculous for the power out put.

Re: 467 Edelbrock Head Build

what gm heads would you have used? dont the old 049s need a ton of work to make that much power? if you could pick the absolute best heads for the application cost no issue what would it be?

Those Edelbrock heads were worked hard, consider the chambers went from 100 cc to 114 cc alone. The iron heads require a lot of work as well, but would have no problem making that kind of HP. Best head hmm, symetrical port 12 degree, second best, worked AFR 265, the cam was the cork, but this was a street driver, I'm sure theres 660 HP there with more tuning, infact with exotic oil and gas it surely would go over 680, but still it should run 10.00 @ 3500 pounds.

Great job as usual Mark,
Makes me wonder how those heads compare to the GM/Eddy ZZ502 heads as mine also ended up at about 113/114cc chambers also. I am running same bore with shorter stroke, same intake.carb etc yours makes way more power.Great job again 👍
