Ethanol free pump gas

Just recently Murphy's USA fuel company has started selling ethanol free fuel here in central TX. As far as I know its the only place around. My hot rod sits alot so I'm really happy that its available again. I have tested it and it is indeed ethanol free. I'm kinda curious what they are using in place of ethanol. It's only offered in 87 but my car and boat run fine on it. Anybody else seeing non ethanol fuel at the pump again?

best regards
Jack

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

It has been exactly politics which have prevented other octane boosters
from being sold at the pumps. MTBE was and is an outstanding octane booster but was banned by the corn and ethanol lobby.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

Not in this part of Oregon. I have two choices.

Make a trip to a special supplier in town or go to a filling station on the outskirts near the boat docks.
That same supplier fills the pump at that station. Totally separate from the regular filling stations and they have "special" hours.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

I can get 91 premium, ethanol free, but only one station has it and it's $4 per gal. All the small engine guys get theirs there as well.

Yup... MTBE,ETBE worked great.... I'm thinking I might contact murphy oil and see if they will give me an MSDS on it. The 87 Efree here is only 20 cents or so more than e-10 so I'm all in on it.

MTBE is responsible for groundwater pollution. The stuff is a disaster.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

We now have it at one of our local stations at .35 cents per gallon higher price but my chevelle and truck seem to run better on it.

We have a station in town that I get 93 premium w/o ethanol. $2.85 when I got it today. Its alittle bit more than Speedway/ Marathon with ethanol.

You need to read the link I posted in Current events about MTBE. Found that when the storage tanks were built up to snuff there was no danger in it getting in the groundwater. it was UC Davis' bs research which was responsible in part for the MTBE danger lies. They were obviously being funded by the corn lobby. I did some homework.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

I agree.. but the corn farmers are happy. Cars run poorly here in the TX heat on E10 and keeping seasonal stuff like lawnmowers and chainsaws running is an adventure.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

Had my vehicles tuned to run excellent on 91 octane with 10% Then the 7-11 stores near here quit selling it and revamped to no ethanol unless you want 87 octane.

My 350 ran like crap on the NON ethanol fuel.. I had to rejet and play with timing.
Finally found some good 10% 91 octane. Back to the old tune, running much better.

I drive a lot though.
I like MTBE, Toluene,Naphtha and TEL ..I used to mix 10% years ago and then some of the stuff they call bad.. it may be bad but the right tune it will make power.

I wish there were more E85's around..

Odd duck out probably.

Re: Ethanol free pump gas

There are a few stations around me that sell non ethanol fuel which I've been using in my lawn mowers, snow blower and such but our vehicles run just fine on the cheaper stuff.
