Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Nothing wrong with the engine being level in a tube chassis car. And yes, sometimes the crank centerline is lower than the pinion. Even my backhalf car, the trans points down and the driveshaft runs upward to the pinion.

My car was setup with a tube in my main saddles to align with the differential. Not many people would take on a project like that, good progress.

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Thanks for the replies fellas, got engine sitting level in car at ride height, center of trans tail is 12.75" from ground, and dig this, with pinion level to 1 degree down from level, center of pinion is 12.75" from ground, don't know how that happened but that's where it's at . I aligned engine and trans with a string, in one of the pics you can see a wood block in the front main that I cut with a hole saw, tied string to a small stick to hold it on that end, ran string through engine and trans,( trans has another block of wood in the tail housing where the yoke seal goes), moved engine around till string did not touch hole in block of wood in tail housing with other end of string at center of pinion, looks and measures to be true. working on engine limiters and trans cross member and mount and driveshaft loops next, Its comin' along just a little slow.

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Got a little bit more done, limiters , mount and loops. Trans cross member and front driveshaft loop are bolted in, rear loop is welded solid, still lack a couple of braces on that one. Probably in the nest week we are going to assemble engine to the point of measuring and ordering the pushrods, also going to take the glide to shop to be gone through, don't know if we want to go with a super bell and trans shield or just go with a super case, any one with thoughts on this ?

By the way, it's not an optical elusion, the loops are not "perfectly" round, the more I tried the worse it seemed to get and I was almost out of acetalene . They will do what they were designed to do

Yeah lot of work, and a lot left to do, lots of little things, hopefully it get christened this next year and makes passes, we have a couple sponsors lined up but nothing finalized yet, if that gets done in January it will go a little quicker , but, I could spend the amount we "agreed" on tomorrow and still not have all the parts, next major purchase will be the fiberglass parts, cant turn lose of the funds just now as it is the slow time of year, It will go down the track in '17, even if we have to push it

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Thanks for the compliments fellas, between the measuring, lots of measuring, cutting and trimming patterns again and again, cutting and bead rolling and braking and trimming again and again, plus one ruined piece, (cut it to narrow) crew chief and I have about 12 hours in just those three pieces . I like the forming, bending, bead rolling and stuff but the "fitting" is for the birds, put it in, does not fit, take it out, trim it, put it back in,............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ....rivet it together

Door panels and inside latch releases are next, I think

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

A little more progress, door panel and inside latch, had to build the top inside of door as the previous owners had cut it out, not a problem, couple of pieces of 2" 14 ga angle, welded to the door and a piece of aluminum angle and a piece of square alum tubing behind latch for a little support, it's not perfect either but............
bead roller we are using is a home made piece that my buddy made years ago, has a little play in it
