Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Races called do to incoming weather,
On the bright side it gives us a little more time, can also go to the track while closed and make a few "tuning" passes, probably do that next weekend, have trailer to repair this weekend.

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Car is ready to go with new 32x16x15 goodyear slicks, new powermaster starter, (new Orileys lifetime warranty starter in trailer for spare) repaired most of the outriggers, frame rail, brake and tail light wires, trim and lower awning mount, mounted fuel jug racks on wall of trailer and got rid of the dragster ramps and built a 6x3 flip down ramp out of 1/4" aluminum that we had laying around, ramp would not fold completely over onto door due to the thickness of the material and rivets, ssooooooo........ we just made some stands that hook to the side of the ramp and are held on with the tie down strap. .
Could not get on track last weekend due to owners being out of town,(racing at motorplex) North Star Dragway in Sanger Tx. is having a tnt this sunday and we plan to be there so we can get some kind of tune in this thing. Just hope it works out better than the first outing.
Hopefully we keep a time slip

We Broke out the spool gun crew chief bought me 3 years ago, (been sittin on shelf in shop) not to bad we think for first time welding aluminum
Now we gotta build a box for a step

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

I used the Goodyear d1408 16x32ís on my car. I liked them. They seemed to 60í better than the Hoosiers for me but the car was also 3180 lbs.

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

Finally made it to tnt at north star dragway in sanger tx, Saturday and sunday little small block 70 chevelle went 6.38 off the showroom floor,86 pill in barrel valve that came in it and 25* timing locked, straight as an arrow, crew chief said it has no or hardly no front end rise, little to none rear squat, "it just goes", nothing dramatic. tried richening it from a 86 to an82 pill and it slowed down, tried advancing timing to 27, no change, went back to 25* and leaned it with a 90 pill, 6.31, advance timing to 27, 6.25, and its 18:30 its time to go home. Overall very pleased with the performance of the car so far.
Power should be 55-75 with a 7800 shift point, never made it that far, did not nose over but just seemed to pull to a certain point and that's it, wound up shifting at 68-7 and all worked well, might rpm more with some more tuning, we will be racing at Ardmore dragway in springer ok this weekend, here's a rundown of the car; 70 chevelle full tube chassis with funny car cage cert to 7.50, weight ?,
408 iron ls, L92 heads with a mild bowl blend, 16:1 compression, straub hyd roller, edlebrock super vic , rons flying toilet manual fuel injection, glide with brake and 1.80 straight cut gears in a super case, transmission specialties 8" 5900, 9" with 4.86 gears, 32x16-15 goodyears out back.

Cam card is "somewhere", maybe Chris can post if he has time and some of y'all want specs.

Still more tuning to do, gonna run it like it is Friday, might make a change after racing and run that Saturday, then make a change and run that sunday, still have not made a trans brake launch and bottle is still on shelf in the shop.

AND, WE DIDN'T TEAR ANYTHING UP !!!

Sorry, no pics or vids, we will have some this weekend, you have my word, also have go pro coming next week for ride along video, AND so I can look at ALL the gauges at once

Re: Drag Only Chevelle Build

We appreciate the kind words fellas, got a little to do before this weekend, gotta lower tach so as the steering wheel ring does not go through the middle of it, need a little more adjustment on harness, and some headlights, might even paint it this summer, have not decided on that one yet.
Thanks again.
