AED 950 HO would be my first choice.
750 HP street 82751 close second.
Unless you want a custom carb, jmarkaudio on here was going to be offering FST carbs but with his calibrations.
Since you've got the 3310, use it. You can turn it into a 800cfm by getting a main body HP conversion kit from ProForm or Holley. The HP main body also gets you adjustable air bleeds
Since you've got no plans for even moderately frequent track use, you'll never know or miss the possible 5-10 hp the bigger carbs might give you.
If your 3310 is an early one with downleg boosters, use it.
I built a garden variety 3310-1 for a friend 2 years ago for the 383 in his `66 Chevelle. It made 530+ HP on the dyno and is running mid 11's currently with a nitrous converter and rear gear (that's on the motor, he hasn't sprayed it yet).
I've also back to back tested a 3310-1 against a 950HP on a 500+ HP 302 small block Chevy on the dyno. Single digit power differences from 4K to 7500 rpm.
Simply put, the early 3310 carbs are some of the best units Holley ever made, they just need to be properly built & tuned.
Aaron, Is the 406 a track motor or a street motor? How big is the cam and what heads you are using? What is the max rpm limit? How much the car weight?
What tranny are you using? What is the rear end gear ratio? Are you using a high stall converter if it is an automatic? All this will affect the size of a carb. 780 cfm was used 427 Yenko Chevelle. They put out over 500 HP.
You have the choice between a 3310 and an 850 CFM vacuum secondary, that's a nice problem to have as either carb could be the best for the street. That 850 sounds like the one to use but if it means anything I'm using a 780 cfm 3310 on my 406SBC.I tried a converted 650 double pumper with a Proform main body but I couldn't get the tune right on it.
I'm going to get a gasket kit and give it one more try but I'm perfectly satisfied with the 3310 on the street, the DP was an attempt at getting the ElCo strip ready.
If your 3310 has flattened shafts on the primaries then its a 780 CFM but you can also tell by the list number.
The 780 cfm 3310's are easy to spot at a glance....they have downleg boosters. All the other 3310-x revisions have straight leg boosters with the bar cast across the booster opening and are 750 cfm.
