467 Oval Port Build

I built this 467 4.310 X 4.00, 959 production block, I used a 28 cc Mahle piston, we had to cut the dome down to get to 9.8-9.9 compression, I ended up setting the 781 heads to 116 CC, unusually small, the heads were ported and 2.190/1.880 valves were installed. I used a RPM air gap with some work, along with a 850 DP with a 1 inch open spacer. The cam was a hyd roller 228/238/.553/.578/111/107, rockers were Scorpion, along with .083 wall moly pushrods/comp 3/8 guide plates. Arp rocker studs. A M77 oil pump with Maxima 10/40 conventional oil, factory type Chevelle oil pan with modification were done. Hopefully this will have good vacuum with a nice power curve. Dyno testing in the near future. BTW RS the bob weight was 2300 grams.

Eager to see how this cam does in this engine. The cam is much “smaller” than your Isky solid FT cam.

He's has the short block done, and he's working on the heads.

I trust he realizes how incredibly lucky he is to have such a wealth of knowledge at his fingertips?

I had the pleasure of working with my Dad for a couple years outside of high school, those years were very important for teaching work ethic and respect. It’s good to have a good mentor.

Re: 467 Oval Port Build

Sorry, but I don't get it. Isn't this the same engine posted in the past, multiple times? ie: ported heads, 228/238 cam, Mahle pistons, RPM intake. What's different?

If this doesn't interest you or entertain you, please move on. There's nothing left for you to see.

Yes - we have an idea as to what range the dyno numbers will come in around...for the most part.

But that doesn't make it any less fun or interesting to follow along, IMHO.

We have a top-notch engine builder and machinist taking us along on a ride.

I'm on board.

Re: 467 Oval Port Build

You don't like my question then YOU move on! I asked a simple, legit question of the op, NOT YOU!!!

The op likes to experiment. What's different?

Fair question IMO. I didn't take anything negative at all from it and am genuinely curioue myself. It is all part of "following along" no? On that note, was curious about the significance of the bob weight not knowing what constitutes light/heavy in that regard.

Yes.....your right, really is the same, except it has a flywheel this time during testing, but Gene's did too. Maybe the only thing here to see is how close the power the power will be to the others?

I used late 80s rods in this build which are a few grams heavier than the old thumb rods, but the newer rods are much more consistent, so I like use them when possible. So the bob weight is maybe 12 grams heavier than it could be, but close to average for this combination.
