Looks like I may have funds coming to spend on something I dont need. Priorities!!
That SB2.2 is just more than Id have....just thinking out loud
Guy I know of has a nice Dart block/421assy new
Cant help but wonder if a blown 421 could get me a more stout time than what I have with better driveability? Like what I have but its never enough.
To the builders here, any input, possible combos?
ID still use a mech fuel pump and fan if I could to keep it simple. Mayyybe even a HR.
I think a 421 SBC would have all the power you would need without that tiny blower. The one thing about those B&M blowers is that make very little power for the money. Put a 200hp NOS shot on the engine and make more for less.
there is a article about a 177 on a 496ci BBC it gets hot pretty quick with back to back dyno pulls, In real world the blower will make more low end torque then a bigger blower but will not make as much power on the top end. the trick is if you are going to keep the 177 below 6500 rpms from off idle to 6500rpm they make good power and tq but they are not meant for anything above that. They are designed more for a street car rather then a race deal. I have a 174 it is the stripped version and while they say it can go up to 500ci truth is spining it that high takes its toll on bearings and such do to the over run ratio you would have to use to get any power out of it at that ci, most say 454ci is max the mini blowers are good for.
below find a link to the comparison superchevy did on a 177 vs a 871 on a 489ci engine. Big Block Chevy Engine - Battle Of The Boost
IMO 144 is for a stock 350 and a 177 is for a stock big block. I stuck a 144 on my 350 with good heads and blower cam and the car slowed down. Made more low end but killed the top end. Once you throw pulleys at it heat goes up and defeats the purpose. Throw it on a stock 350 and it makes a large difference. For a small supercharger a procharger is a better choice.
These small blowers work best on smaller cid engines. To force feed larger cid's you would have to try different pulleys which like said above causes problems of their own. Pro charge for about the same $$$.
Some like the look and sound for car events.
ok scratch that idea. NA is just fine.....know the prochargers can do more but want to keep PS and maybe add ac at some point.
All depends on what the bank looks like in a month or two. Really wish I could afford the sb2.2 its unique and super powerful.
There are cheaper ways but never liked following the herd.
Im betting a vortecpro 468 or 496 with a cleaned up afr head would do the trick just not sure I want to have to change it all up.
I put hardened parts in this T56 but worry a BB would tear it to shreds.
For sure any manual trans behind a performance engine that is used that way will have a shorter life that a properly built automatic trans.
Going from small to big block, there is not that much to change. Unless you go with big power, rpm and torque. Then you will be where I was a 2 summers ago.
sticking to gen 1, sure a healthy 408 would run well just dont like the sound nor the appearance of ls
The whistling of the procharger type blowers would get on my nerves. Like the roots stuff but a 6-71 isnt in the plans
Too many heating issues
