Mark 4 454 with roller cam,what front cover ?

Planning on going roller in my El Camino. What front cover did you guys use ? Button ,Thrust plate and what else might be needed.

I used a Gen V cam and a thrust plate. No brainer. Stock timing cover.

Use a Gen V timing chain. I used a Summit one. I think I got the thrust plate there also.

I used a step nose cam & retainer plate I think it said for gen VI and I used a rollmaster gear &chain set from Straub has a torrington bearing, mines in a MK IV block and you can use a stock cover, I used an alum though

I didnt like that cam at all,lol.Removed it from my gen6 ho motor and reinstalled the original one it came with.

I also run the step nose cam with plate. One thing I want to point out is to be sure to check your end play. When I first checked mine it actually had preload (no end play). I had to surface grind about .005 off the plate to get a couple thousands end play. I don't imagine the needle bearing thrust would last long with preload on it.

Used oem, chrome and alu with nylon button.
Oem and alu with gen VI step nose.

Used a 2pc Cloyes with an adjustable button. Kinda hated it at first, but now I like it. No way I’d pay what they cost new though, mine was in some parts I horsetraded for.

What didn't you like about it?
