Street use Dominator carb.

What is best for street use a 2 circuit or 3 circuit?
Research ( though somewhat out dated ) shows most people preferring a 2 circuit.
Does that still hold true?

Who makes a good 2 circuit Dominator carburetor 1250 cfm and/or bigger?

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

I'm running the 2 circuit 1050 on the street and track with no issues, but like most carbs I had to fine tune to my combo. Mine came from AED.

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

You can make either one work but the 2 circuit is the better of the 2 for what you're doing in my opinion

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

I was going to use a 8896 1050 I bought for a streeter and found out it was 3 circuit carb. I called Holley the tech guy said to just put a small lead ball in the hole for the intermediate tube and call it a day, it will run fine. Some say you should change the metering blocks and other stuff but the Holley tech says you don't need to do all that so I guess I will try it.

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

I ran a 3 circuit 1050 on my smallblock on the street for several years. Ran great. Idled fine, drove around town great and was nice and snappy.

I use a BG king demon 1095 that started life as a 3 circuit methanol carb, now it’s a two circuit gas carb. It really doesn’t feel or act any different from a good 4150. Always heard dominators were finicky but this one acts just fine. I’ve got an old Holley book that explains why the third circuit was added, don’t remember the details but the gist was the third circuit was not necessary.

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

I have a BG King Demon R/S that is 1050cfm but will be to small for the application. I need at least 1250cfm.

If sleeves were available I'd change it over to a 1250, but I they seem to be unobtainable.

So does anyone custom build Dominators to engine parameters?

Re: Street use Dominator carb.

ran one ( 2 circuit ) for a while and will use it again for next build. Only issue was idle circuit was pig rich and would foul plugs if left to idle for long time. these carb are set up for very little engine vacuum at idle so if you have a set up that gives good vacuum it will suck up a lot of fuel/ air through this circuit at idle. I installed larger bleeds to lean it out and it took care of this.

Why run 1 when you can run 2?

I wouldn't buy another 3-circuit for the street again. My experience is by the time that intermediate circuit is restricted enough to make it stop burbling at cruising rpm, it is pointless to have it. I'm currently running 2 off the shelf 2-circuit 1050's and don't think throttle response could be better.

These new Gen 3 Holleys are hard to beat.
