Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

That's a big head, sure won't work well on a 468. Some people hate Speedmaster (pro-comp) and some have good luck with them.

Dont know about their longlivety? Like guides valves springs etc.
Think brodix, dart, afr, Edelbrock are better in the longrun of you can afford them.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

For that price, I'd consider Pro-maxx or Edelbrock instead.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

You have to ask yourself, why would a company change their name after being in business for 20 years. Pro Comp now Speedmaster.

Why is it we never have time or money to do it the right way in the beginning but we always have time and money to do it over again?

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

Take a look at the ProMaxx, they're a very nice head. $100 off at Jegs, that'll put 'em under $1200/pair delivered, bare.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

Buy them bare and have a competent shop install quality hardware. Take a look at what skip white offers, I personally know guys running these on the track with success.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

Knowing what I know about ProMaxx I'd not buy them direct. Be better off to buy them from someone who fixes them before you get them. Saves you the trouble of buying them twice. Hindsight would have steered me to some AFR 305's. That said, ProMaxx has pretty nice castings but it ends there.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

I have a 511 in my hardtop and the 360s are likely too much for that, but will be building a 555 soon.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

Stokerboats, what issues are you aware of with the ProMaxx heads? A quick check with valves showed the seats to be in the right spots, guide clearance was fine...

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

A customer brought me a 454 with these ProComp oval ports to build, finishing it up right now. Maybe I should do a thread on the dyno test.

Re: Speedmaster Heads ?

Didnt promaxx buy pro comp? I wouldnt use em..just save more and get good stuff.
If the top guys here dont care for them then......sometimes youll hear machinists pushing them only cause they make good profit off them.
Have a lot tied up in your bottom end?

ProMaxx bought the assets of the old Patriot Performance. Nothing to do with Speedmaster.
