Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

I installed a Lunati 20010722 hyd. roller cam with retaining plate in my '75 MKIV block and have .116 back and forth, I stacked my feeler gauge .026 .028 .030 .032, when I bolt the rollmaster timing gear with a Torrington bearing to the cam will that take care of the endplay? or do I need shims somewhere? I did do a search first but only came up with cam button threads, TIA, rick.
I have to chase the threads on left button head hole it's not tight but other side is, and anyone use blue lock tight on those?

You have to attach the cam gear. That sets the thrust clearance. I use red loctite.

Make sure the timing set is the correct one for the new style camshaft like you have.

Re: Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

Iím sure it will be fine. Does it have thrust bearing on the timing set?

Yes but is it for a new style "step nose" cam like you have ?

By the way personally I think the torrington bearing is just one more thing to go wrong. Especially in this application.

Re: Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

Never had a problem with the bearing and I think it will be hard to find a set for this application without it.

To be honest with you I have never seen a timing set with the bearing for the late model setup, but I haven't really looked for one. Every 502 Mercruiser engine in the world uses the stock GM single roller setup with no bearing and they run hundreds of hours at near wot with no problems. Cloyes has a double roller setup for them with no bearing.

Re: Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

It's made for this application I'm told, MKIV block, step nose cam and thrust retainer, dual roller and will fit under factory cover, I changed my mind on factory cover and bought an alum. summit cover, I'll take a pic today and post it, nice set and made in Australia, RollMaster is brand name, I also have Howards Max Effort roller lifters and hoping all these needle bearings or roller pins in these parts stay put.

Re: Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Torrington bearing and it does reduce a significant amount of friction. The Gen6 timing set will only fit the step nose cam. Aside form the step, the Mk4 gear won't physically bolt to it because the bolt pattern is different. You can't mix the parts.

Re: Roller Cam .116 Endplay?

The gear fits the cam perfectly but when I ordered parts & fasteners I forgot to order arp cam gear bolts I recently ordered the Brodix heads from Mike Lewis so I have a few weeks before it's ready to go back to Johns dyno at Muscle Machining & Race Engines, hoping before Xmas
PS seen the thread that the Torrington bearing came apart due to low/no oil pressure , thinking of pre oiling it or Lucas syn assembly lube?
