2-step

Was racing this weekend. When I put the car on the 2-step. The engine started popping. What would cause this....

Assuming it’s an aftermarket 2 step.
It’s the ignition control type.
Ignition is cut. No spark but fuel still
Gets into the exhaust and ignites
Hence the pop crack n sometimes flames.

Re: 2-step

I have had this happen on 1 car myself where I put it on the 2 step and it started shooting fireballs out of the headers. Didn't hurt anything. I think the car was a little rich on the 2 step was the problem.

Maybe pulling too much unburned fuel/air out during the overlap? Close lobe separation cam?

Original poster, raise the rpm on the 2 step.

Re: 2-step

It has never popped before.
2-step was at 2800, it's now 3000 rpms

Re: 2-step

Here is a guess. Cold air, more oxygen, easier to ignite the unburnt fuel in the exhaust?
