Re: 2018 496 phase 3 plan - AFR315 heads

This is what I used with the small crank pulley.
I'm probably going to change to a 2" as the 1.6" doesn't have enough surface area and "sometimes" squeals.

is there more than one way to get CSA? what's the preferred? I have started talking to Chris and this is information he'd like me to give him.

Bob,
I've made him aware that it is you on the Email about the MCSA. He is getting a couple of things done today and he should email you.

Bob, I saw the pictures you sent Chris and based on what I see and the location of the minimum cross section in those ports, I'd say you didn't change it by much, if at all. I would use AFR's advertised number and maybe increase it by ~2-3%. Measuring cross section in an oval port is tricky because of the inconsistent shape. You have to measure a section at a time as you go in the port and figure out which is smallest...that's the min. casa. It's not as easy as doing height x width and correcting for corner radii on a rect port. Hope that helps.

I am sticking with the 315s and reached out to Chris to get a custom cam ordered. Hoping to get it in by late August in time for drag week.

Hopefully this will be turned around in time. I don't believe it will make any dyno pulls before going back in the car. Never say never.

I asked for something that would work with the PAC springs and Morel hyd roller lifters. I also want peak power in 6500 RPM area with a shift point close to 7000 RPM.
cam card is at the machine shop, I believe it's 258/260 @ .050 and like 665 and 637 lift.

The machinist I work with is really interested in how it will run. He has some old tried and true marks on his degree wheel where he checks the cam at certain increments in the open and closing events. He is not expecting me to be faster. It's possible he just doesn't work with the higher end heads enough to know they may need something a little different. I'm not sure so this will be very interesting.

Re: 2018 496 phase 3 plan - AFR315 heads

the engine was back in the car last Thursday but I had a dozen or more little things to do before trying to start in Sunday night. Before I pulled the engine out the fitech had given me issues starting. when tearing down I noticed the rotor was coming loose in the cap. I thought maybe this was why the fitech was being weird after a few weeks of driving and starting. It was not the issue. My handheld had freaked out a few times where it randomly jumped around the menus. today did I did a reset with the fitech support guy, followed the IAC steps procedure, and now my starting issues seem to be a thing of the past. I hope to post a video of the new cam thumping later today and weather permitting I will get some racing in as soon as Friday.
Fingers crossed Chris hit a homer with this bump stick.

If you like hearing cams or watching videos on youtube feel free to watch.

The test drive went well. I didn't have enough gas in the tank to be too crazy but it was moving and revving pretty clean for a little street hit. on concrete it hooked decent on black top it was skating. need to put some miles on it tomorrow before trying the track Friday night.
