Getting the correct 69 blue color

I have a 69 Chevelle that is needing some body work. I would like to paint it an original 69 blue color. I am having trouble trying to determine the real color from the chips and the factory brochure (which doesn't really put a name with a color). The color I want to replicate is on page 38 of the Sept. 7, 2017 Old Cars Weekly News and Marketplace magazine. Can anyone point me to some clear examples of paint chips for a 69 Chevelle?

Which blue are you interested in? There's Dusk Blue, and LeMans Blue, and there's Glacier Blue, Azure Turquoise, and Carolina Blue. Pontiac Motor Division had a '69 color called Liberty Blue that's gorgeous and was available as a special order paint on a Chevelle.

Actual Paint Chip charts are available on eBay all the time. 1969 CHEVROLET CORVETTE IMPALA CAMARO CHEVELLE NOVA CHEVY II 69 PAINT CHIPS RM 2

Your painter can phone the paint manufacturer of choice and get the clear coat/base coat "formula" and then mix up a small sample for your approval.

Re: Getting the correct 69 blue color

I am thinking that the color may be Lemans Blue. It is definitely not a dark navy blue. However, I would like to see an example of Liberty Blue before I decide on a color.
Is Liberty Blue close to Marina Blue? Also, thank you for your reply.

What does the trim tag say? Or are you changing from original color? Terry

LeMans Blue is a lighter blue. Simply do a google image search with "LEMANS BLUE 1969 CHEVELLE." For Liberty Blue use "LIBERTY BLUE 1969 LEMANS." Another possibility is "Windward Blue" a 1970 Pontiac color (search with "WINDWARD BLUE 1970 GTO").

Re: Getting the correct 69 blue color

That's the color, Lemans Blue, that I was wanting for my 69. Is there much difference between Lemans Blue and Marina Blue from a few years previous?
Also, I am changing the color of the car.

There's not a whole lot of difference in the colors, however the difference is noticeable. My 'Bu was Marina Blue when I got her -- the "incorrect" (Marina) Blue color was one of the reasons Owner Number 2 sold her -- he specified the wrong color and the body shop wouldn't reshoot it in LeMans Blue for free: A "Not our mistake" situation.

Re: Getting the correct 69 blue color

Lemans Blue on a 1969 Chevelle is like a 1970 Chevelle pained red with black deck stripes.....a timeless classic that will always look great.

What color interior? Vinyl top? Side stripe?

Re: Getting the correct 69 blue color

If I can get this pic up? LeMans blue has metallic in it, Marina blue is a poly with no metallic from what I've been told, I chose 70 Olds Viking blue poly, I'll try to upload a pic asap, couldn't get it to work now

I would guess YES....but that's a tough picture to use/judge. It's in the shadows right next to sunshine, if that makes any sense.

Enclosed are some photos from my 1969 LeMans Blue Chevelle collection, one of which was actually my first car.

Re: Getting the correct 69 blue color

Look in my "Garage" under my user name and/or my "Pics" in my profile. Mine is PPG water based LeMans Blue #71 with several, I think 4, coats of 4000 clear. I almost glows.
