65 El Camino Badging / Emblems Location

Hi all. I am trying to figure out the correct location to mount my "El Camino" Emblem on the rear quarter panel. and also the crossed flag emblem on the front fender with the 283 badge. My car has had the mount locations covered and painted over.. It looks fine, but i want the original emblems on the car. and I dont really want to just "eyeball" them. Is there any accurate measurements out there? Thanks.

If nobody has a good answer for you by tomorrow am, I'll take a couple of snapshots and some measurements for you. I'd need to know the reference points to measure from. Let me know. Mines a 327 badge, but I'd expect the holes to be same location.

The assembly manual will give you exact dimensions. Or you might ask over at El Camino Central. Sorry I don't have a 65 El.

You're in luck for one of the logos. Someone on this site or the El Camino site had the same question a few months back.
Here's a picture with dimensions from my '65 El Camino. I can do the same for the front fender tomorrow morning. Hope it helps, and it's always good to hear there's another '65 El Camino on the road!

Re: 65 El Camino Badging / Emblems Location

Tig Welder - Glad to help. But I just had a thought. Remove one of the brake light housings and look inside the body. You should be able to see body filler sticking thru the mounting holes. I rewired my Elco in August and took the picture below through the drivers side tail light top opening. It's not the best photo. But, in the top of the photo you can see one of the clips holding the emblem. Give it a shot. You may not have to make any measurements! Also, I'll reply with a photo of the front emblem tomorrow or Saturday. Cheers

Better yet, remove the inspection panel in the bed, just ahead of the tailgate. That will provide clear access to the rear emblem. I've not done that because the screws are painted. Regarding the front, you should be able to see the screw holes from the back side. Should be easy on the driver's side. The battery may have to be removed on the passenger's side. See below.
