Front Fender Fitment 71 on a 70

I have a quick question, I've seen 71 Chevelle malibu fenders on 70's before, no side marker cut out.

Friend wants original fenders to replace on his 70, I suggested perhaps the 71-72 originals seem to be more available since he's having a hard time finding 70's fenders.

So the question is, will 71-72 fenders fit a 70 ? He can cut out the location of the side markers to look 70 again.

Thanks!
Jules

Re: Front Fender Fitment 71 on a 70

Years ago I made a 70 fender out of a 71-72 fender by welding the side marker on and butchering out some metal behind the fender extension where it couldn't be seen.
If I had it to do today, I would just buy a new fender.

That sort of cut and paste was pretty common with '70 through '72 GTOs when converting fenders fron a LeMans. It's really pointless now that decent reproduction fenders are available new. Do what Dean says.

Good advise. That's what I'll tell him!

I think because of all the hoop lah w.r.t. new production fenders not fitting correctly he's concerned especially if it's a DIY project.

Thank you Gentlemen!

The front of the fender where the fender extensions mount are also completely different between 70 and 71-72. It's not just the side marker light.

Radiator support comes into play also.

I just got done with my science project. Haha. I have a 72 and converting it to a 70. I had got some really shiitake fenders from OPGI. I had kept my 72 fenders cause I’m a pack rat. Well... I was getting tired of looking at the work I had in front of my to fix the new fenders.

So.... I put the 70 front fender brackets onto my 72 fenders. I feel better as my originals are in pretty good shape so I chose to write off my loss on the new sheet metal.

For the record I looked, at every fender OPGI had in stock (upwards of 10-15) and found the best two they had.... and were still crap.

Cheers.
