Hood Hinge Nuts in Inner Fender

One of the two nuts for the lower mount of the hood hinge to the driver's side inner fender of my 67 Chevelle broke. I need to find and replace the nut. It looks like a square nut and has a captured "washer" on the back. Obviously the nut is inserted from the inside of the fender.

Does anyone know what nut I need and where I can buy one? Does the nut need to be spot welded to the inner fender?

Owning a Chevelle project is like having a giant-size piggy bank that you keep pouring money into....but you can't get it back out.

Randy, messenger is giving me problems and does not seem to be sending.

Here is my reply:

I had a scrap 67 fender and that's how I pulled it from the backside. Send me your address and it's yours.
Randy.
Randy, thank you. If you get my reply more than once, messenger is being "difficult" this morning. Yes, that is the nut I need. Tell me what I owe you.

Re: Hood Hinge Nuts in Inner Fender

Here in Alabama we would say that nut hole is a little wallered out, you may need to epoxy it into place until you tighten up the hinge.

I did gently hit is with a hammer and that flattened the "wallered" bit; however, I do intend to use some epoxy. I suspect that nut hole was a problem waiting to happen.

Re: Hood Hinge Nuts in Inner Fender

Those are pierce nuts, and are on many other cars. I own a resto shop. Simply tack weld a nut using care. Good luck finding a shop that will not screw it up. I just restored a car and the nut was loose on an NOS fender. These types of things are normal if you've been doing this for decades as a profession..

I do have a local body shop but I doubt that they are as experienced as you re this little nut. I'll pass on your advice and thanks very much.
