Transmission tunnel sheet metal patch

Wondering if anyone has seen any transmission tunnel sections/patches. Instead of a whole new floorpan. I got a custom butchered hole in mine I'd like to patch or fix. 72 Chevelle. Thx

That hole isn't bad at all. You'd be certifiably insane if you decided to replace the entire floor pan!

In order to advise you, a few questions need to be answered. What kind of transmission are you planning to use, manual or automatic?

If you're using a Muncie 4 speed with an original shifter or a hurst shifter, there is a replacement steel shifter hump available. You have the option of a console or no console version.

If it's an auto, what kind of shifter are you using? I'm not as savvy for the 68-72 cars, so I am unsure if there is a hump replacement offered. With that said, you can either make your own patch panel or cut one out from a donor car.

Re: Transmission tunnel sheet metal patch

Thx guys. It'll be a TH400, with floor ratchet shifter. I can fab up a patch panel. It's not a show car, not getting sold to anyone, so for my sake, it doesn't need to be perfect. I just wondered if anyone had see just a hump, something that would fit pretty nice, and be an easy fix. I'll make a patch panel for it. There is a couple angles on it, that is why I thought a new patch panel would have been nice, so the fit is better than the patch I would make, but I'll go for the patch. It'll take me a little creativity to get it to fit just right, but it's all good. Thinking of using some 18ga, unless others advise for 20ga...the 18 seems almost a bit too thick to try and work with, but would prolly be fine.

Joe Vega. AKA "azchevs". He probably has tunnel sections/pieces/scraps ready to ship from the many parts cars he buys and cuts up. I've seen his operation first hand. Amazing what he does in terms of deconstruction.

Re: Transmission tunnel sheet metal patch

Do you have any contact information for Joe Vega? One of the cars I am working on is a 67 Nova SS that was an automatic car but we are converting it to a 4 speed. Already cut out the SS automatic hump which is different than the 4 speed hump. Would love to buy that part of a 66 or 67 Nova SS 4 speed tunnel and just weld into place along with the original console brackets.

Thanks,
Chuck
