Re: SS stripe dimension

those are in inches 1/4 =.250 1/2 =.500 and 3/16=.1875 Most people that aren't looking for 100% correctness round the 1.6 to 1 1/2 inch the 2.28 to 2 1/4 the .30 to 1/4 and .28 to 1/4 and .95 to 1 inch Close enough for most everyone.

There's nothing wrong with being stupid as long as you know you're stupid, it's when you're stupid and don't know it that you become dangerous.

Re: SS stripe dimension

Thanks Bart, I dug out my mic since I wrote tread and you are correct, The numbers come out like 1.66 = 1-11/16,.95 = 1", .30 = 5/16 & .28 =the same 5/16 & last 2.28 =2-5/16.
so when laying out stripes I can see myself using 1/8 fine line for middle of hood and take measurement from cent of that out. Then using 1/4" fine line to lay out small stripes next to large @ 2-5/16 from edge of cowl or raised part of hood.
when you look @ Factory assembly manual it looks like they want you to start stripes using edge of hood under "A" not edge of cowl.
I waited 11 yrs to finish this Elky and I did buy a stencil kit (thats for sale) but I now fine its easier to lay out lines yourself and use the center part of fine line plastic center to create your two curves. I cannot wait to be done painting this elky. The Summit commercial is right on 95% labor 5% paint. My arms are at lease an inch longer from all the damn block sanding. (except sanding clear) that should be fun finish line in site. what am I saying! I still have to wire and assemble whole truck. I can see end of tunnel
Thanks Tony

Re: SS stripe dimension

Curley, with all respect, I know you believe you'll do a good job, but my experience has been otherwise. In my forever I've seen ONE really great painted-on 1969-style D96 Side Stripe and that one was on a Chevelle at MCACN. Buy the stripe kit and stick them on -- sometime in your forever you may decide you want different stripes. If they're painted on it will be expensive to change them out.

Your car- your choice.

Re: SS stripe dimension

If you're using blue 3M fineline, make sure to let the tape "rest" after you pull it slowly off of the roll. Just a split second before you lay it down, or else it will shrink and the lines can be wavy. This is especially important as you. round your corners. Once I have my outside stripe measurements, I like to initially lay them out with 1 1/2" blue painters tape. Then I just run my fineline along that edge. I hope that made sense and can help you. Post some pics, I'd love to see .
