Probably not. If you are going to use anything use a 2"x6" knife sharpening stone with WD40 A "sanding board" is simply not flat enough to give a flat surface.

To be honest with you it will probably be fine the way it is even though it is not ideal. I have a Fel Pro surface comparator floating around somewhere. I will see if I can find it and take a picture of the lower Ra areas so you can see them.

A lot of it is also going to depend on what the intended application of the engine will be. If it is a stock engine it will probably be fine. Race engine with a ProCharger .... I would have it surfaced correctly.
