Introduced yesterday. Mid engine, 495 hp and 8 speed dual clutch trans standard.
Dual clutch? I heard they only had automatics.

Isn't that for the Z06?

Still, 500 HP for under 60K.

Plus I'll bet we see a hybrid version with AWD at some point.

I'm one of the many that hated the departure from the traditional signature round Corvette tail lights on the C7. The whole tail is horrible.

While the C8 retains horizontal tail lights, they're a lot better. I also like the return to having tail pipes extreme left & right instead of all centered.

I'd still prefer round tail lights but I feel the rear end of the C8 is much better than the C7.

It looks great...but… it's becoming more and more an "exotic" car than a muscle car...<img src="http://www.camaros.net/forums/images/smilies/sad.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Sad" class="inlineimg" />

Claude.
Claude, please don’t start the corvette is a muscle car debate.

To stay competitive against Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, they have to go to the semi auto paddle shift boxes. No H patterns any more. I wouldn't be surprised to see AWD in the future.

As for the looks, GM can keep this version. I think it looks like a Ferrari/Audi hybrid with a Camaro back end.

I really look forward to seeing what the race car will look like though.

I was just telling my wife if she really loves me, she would be ok with me getting one once the dealer mark ups cease.

I've always thought the C7 is stunning. I like the car quite a bit. I didn't expect much from the C8 but Chevy really upped their game on this one. Duntov would be happy. The Corvette has some other car companies in meetings about now.
I haven't been at all impressed with GM's trend to build car in China and import them to the USA. I've never owned an import nor will I ever. I don't care who's name is on a car. China is the type of country who will simply tell GM this is their property now. I would never place an American in harms way to recover their loss either.

Some serious engineering there. If I was 35 years younger and sitting on a wad of unneeded cash, I'd spring for one. Sure looks like cop bait though.:D

i drive a lot and 9 times out of 10 I see new corvettes in the right lane driving 65 mph on the freeway. what a waste. i drive my camaro like i stole it and I guarantee i would drive the hell out of one of those things. i keep looking at later c5s to buy for a daily driver. anyway the new car is awesome

I’m not thrilled with the looks. To many random body lines. And the rear looks like a Camaro. And what’s with the bazillion switches up the center divider? And the iPad looking center pod. Weird and cheap looking.
Put admittedly, at the price point and with that kind of performance GM will sell the daylights out of them. We will have to see how the dealers mark them up in the beginning.

How long until someone uses a wreck to build a Ford GT-40 or Lambo replica? >:)
I liked the 53-57 'Vettes, even if they were "Plastic Pachyderms'" with poor handling and only moderate performance.
Mid 80's versions can be had in running condition for under $2K, then rebuilt into decent cars.
This newest version should not be called Corvette, to far away from the original in every way.
And no, I have no interest in owning one.

every car that still uses an original moniker like the mustang camaro etc etc are light years different than the original cars. the corvette is gms performance flagship. it's supposed to use the latest technology. for years the vettes were slow heavy slugs through most of the 70s. the 83 to 96 cars were ok as they had really straightened the suspension out and the lt1 cars ran pretty good but the 97 and later cars are so much better they might as well be called something different. i mean who doesn't lust after a 67 427 vette but an 03 zo6 is just as fast at the drag strip and absolutely murder it every other way you can test. that and you can drive them every day.one guy had 800k on a c5. they have been talking about a mid engine vette since 1960 or so. i think they are great

Love it!

I've been wanting a used Corvette for a track toy for a while, but for the first time ever, I have a VERY strong desire to buy a new one!

For the first time since I was ten years old, I have absolutely no desire to own a new Corvette. It MIGHT be a great car, but it no longer represents the car the I fell in love with as a kid, and I think it is a travesty to CALL it a Corvette. If I was interested in stumpy mid engined sports cars, I would have never been a Corvette fanatic in the first place. I have said this more than once in different venues, but the Corvette should be proud to be what it IS, not worry about what it isn't, and just concentrate on being the best self it can be. This car is is a half assed attempt to try to woo people who are never going to buy Corvettes anyway, because it will never have the cache of Ferrari or Porsche or any of the other fancy brands, even if it IS faster and cheaper.
