Old timers trick:

Take the air cleaner off and cup your hand. Slowly put your hand over the fi barrels. Engine must be running. If the engine smooths out and gains rpm, you have a vac leak.

I absolutely hate (and refuse) to spray anything flammable on the exterior of a running engine.
