I had a 283 with a powerglide 2 speed trans in a 66 Impala coupe.Man did that engine and trans combination leave you wanting for more cubes. Don't get me wrong even with the factory A/C it moved along just fine everyday but from a performance standpoint it was way underpowered.
Here is some advice from someone who had owned a 283 as a daily driver for about 3 years, get the 350 and don't look back.
