I thought it might be that piece. The ones I've done I sanded gently to roughen them up then "brushed" on plastidip. Have never had a problem with it coming off.
I've also used the liquid electrical tape which had great results as well. Patience is important when applying these.

BTW those little corner pieces are available as well. Pain to install and keep retained. Or if they are in good shape, can be painted with plastic paint/prep while in place.
