As others have said the first 60' is critical to a good et. To give you perspective when I had the 427 in my car I would run 11.0`s @ 123-124 with 1.55 60`s it wasn't until I got the suspension to work and got the car to run mid 1.40`s in the 60 that I could consistently get in the 10`s ultimately running 10.70`s @ 125 consistently . I went through the whole you can leave now thing too(no roll cage/bar), and even though I really didn't want to put one in my 66, I did and was surprise how much more compliant the car was with the added stiffness. It boils down to how much you like going to the track ultimately .
A good working car requires good body separation and for me I had to put good shocks and springs in to accomplish that.
