I would at least upgrade to a Led bulb in that G body housing. I did that on my daughters car and it made quite a difference in brightness and how fast the 3rd brake light goes from zero to full illumination.

You could upgrade to a led strip light, as long as it would fit inside the unit, not sure it would be worth all the trouble?
