Lunch with a legend, who leaves the tip?

I'm having lunch with Tom (the Mongoose) McEwen tomorrow, so I'll let you guys know.

Turns out he works with a buddy of mine. My buddy says, I work with this grumpy old drag racer that's kinda famous.

I said, hey I'm a grumpy old drag racer that's kinda famous

I'm not sure if there is a proper etiquette for such an occasion, but if it were me I would be honored to buy lunch and leave the tip for the privelege of sitting down with the "Mongoose".

Re: Lunch with a legend, who leaves the tip?

I get to the parking lot just as my buddy pulls in. We're standing there talking when Tom pulls in...

followed by an Orange County sheriff.

We decided to wait inside. Tom walks in, and I asked him happened. He got a ticket for running a "no turn on red". I said, a guy that made his living going 250mph gets a ticket for" no turn on red"?

He replied, I made my living going 320mph, and you're buying lunch

And so it goes...

You are a lucky man... He was an inspiration to all of us before we all became grumpy old men.

lunch with the mongoose how awesome is that growing up at lions dragstrip , well , even before birth my mom would race pregnant with me back in 66 ! after my birth she would hide me tucked in next to the bucket in the 41 willys with a full blown hemi in my car seat ! i have seen so much as a child raised on the strip ! having lunch chatting it up with the mongoose that would be too cool !

Re: Lunch with a legend, who leaves the tip?

I should add, at 80 years old Tom is working full time at Drag Racing magazine. When I asked him why, he said he needed the money.

I asked him what happened to all the drag race/Mattel money, and he said he spent it on fast women, and fast cars...

Respect
