Barrett-Jackson

I went to the BJ Northeast auction today at Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville CT. I missed it last year, and really wanted to give it a try. I have a tough time walking around due to some health reasons, but I figured I needed to check it out. I'm very happy I did, I had a very good time. I saw a lot of nice cars. It is a huge event, and I just couldn't make it around to see everything, but what I did see was pretty cool. If I look at it as a car show, I'd have to say it was the best one I've been to. Unfortunately it's too bad that the majority of the seating in the arena is reserved for bidders, and all though I found a place to sit, it makes you feel like "poor folk". Anyway, I understand they are there to make money, and that's what it seems it's always about. But like I said I'm real glad I went, and if any of you get a chance, check it out.

Re: Barrett-Jackson

I went on Wednesday with a few buddies to just check out the cars before the auction started. Lots of cars, some nice, and a few that were just dirty, beat up and that the people didn't even bother to wash! Selling 'em dirt ,n all!

Overall it was pretty cool.

Don't you know that those are "barn finds" now. that makes them worth more.

Re: Barrett-Jackson

Really like watching it on tv with the good coverage. They are over the top mopar dedicated at this show it seems but since they are the sponsor guess that makes it ok. a bit pissed they cut off the final price for a beautiful 68 ss396 - red. bet if it was a mopar may have gotten a bit more tv time...Christy is still quite easy on the eyes too....

I know that the TV makes pigs look nice, but seemed to a lot of cars were going way cheap.

Your just jealous because you can't hear the voices!

Re: Barrett-Jackson

One thing I noticed is in person you hear the auctioneer and or assistant giving you more of a description of the vehicle, and specifics of the title. Something I never heard in any of the TV coverage.

Re: Barrett-Jackson

I was there thursday at 8 am to check out all the cars and watched the auction all afternoon. Going to a Barrett-Jackson auction was on my bucket list; had a ball getting to see it in person and experience the fun of being there (NO commercials). You do miss a lot of behind the scenes action on TV. Some cars are not as perfect as you would think. Lots of door and panel alignment issues, and paint described as "excellent " had haze and cracks. All in all, I will go back next year.

Went with the wife overnight. Had a blast and was worth it. You are right about some of the cars being thrown together (funny watching some cars leave the stage with brake lights out). Saw some real nice cars though. (1969 Boss 429 went for over $300,000). Only one LS6 (black with camel interior, bench seat, floor shift, dome hood, stripe delete, dual snorkel air cleaner) a few wrong details but a nice car went for $115,500.

Re: Barrett-Jackson

I was there Friday and Saturday. It was a very well done auction. I had a good time, can't say a bad thing about. We sat both days second level even with the stage. They were the best seats IMO. It was quieter there speakers faced forward from the stage, the PA was on the loud side. A lot of people seemed to think if you weren't a bidder you had to sit in the nosebleed blue seats, but that isn't true.

My favorite of the auction was the 66 El Camino. California car, big block super nice. It went for iirc 34k. Some other things that were memorable, the $360k 2000 mile Boss 429. $125k Judge. I saw several cars sell for way too much. A nothing special red 66 Chevelle for $30k, you could visibly see mig weld blobs on the outside of the quarters where they welded them on. $21k for a ratty 70's nova with lumpy flat black paint. $7k for a late 70's elcamino that looked like it came out of a junkyard was painted right over the rust, holes still visible. Oh and $90k for a nothing that special pro touring 70 Chevelle. Somebody made a killing on that one.

I did the Ford ride and drive so I could get a ride in the new GT 350. I like it. It's quick but not super fast, brakes are excellent, exhaust note is nothing short of amazing. I wouldn't buy one, I can't get past the looks of the latest generation of mustang. I like the prior one.

We drove my 66 there from Maine. We were going to take our new mustang. But I walked out to the garage to leave and said screw it lets drive the Chevelle instead. 600 mile round trip, not a single hiccup, got 21 mpg. FiTech and the TKO were well worth it.

I saw that Chevelle too in the parking garage on Friday. I didn't read the description but I heard a guy comment on it being a color change or something like that.

I was told by an usher that's where you had to sit. In the blue section, unless you were a bidder. I first sat in two different spots in the rose colored seats on what I would call the second level. I saw other people with the same black wrist band I had sitting there too. However when I got up and asked that's what I was told. Not saying your wrong, just what I was told.

Re: Barrett-Jackson

I missed last year and have been to several Mecum Events. Was there for entire auction this past weekend. Had a great time. Very interesting to say the least.
The black LS 6 you mentioned was a no sale in Mecum Kissimmee Jan 2017. at 95,000. Guess the seller got his number a 115. Nice Car. Claimed number matching. factory Color was changed to Black.
Nicely detailed car. Couple other surprises. Was a nice event. Will most likely repeat next year.

Did anyone happen to see a Cortez Silver LS6 El Camino go across the block up there? Just curious.
