How would one find the original owner of your car???

I would like to find the original owner and any other owners in between him and me just to see if they have any pics or stories about the car. I believe my car was originally blue with a black vinyl top. How would you guys go about doing this? Thanks!!!

Your cowl tag, of course will tell you what color your car was originally.

As for the original owner, I was fortunate enough to find a registration tag from a previous owner who happened to still live at the same address in the same town 25 years later. I called him, we talked and he provided me with some clues. I contacted the dealership I believed the car was sold at new, but they had no records dating back to 1969. I put an ad on craigslist in the town in WV where I believed the car was sold new. I also contacted car clubs in the area, asking them for help. I then solicited NCRS who has a service to locate the original selling dealership for certain late-60's Chevelles, Novas and Camaros. Within days I received a certificate from them confirming my car was sold by the same dealer I suspected. I also posted in Team Chevelle's "Lost and Found", and that is where I hit pay dirt, as the original owner sent me a private message that he had bought my '69 Chevelle new. We have since talked several times and have become friends. He requested that if I ever sell the car that he be given first chance to buy it back.

Good luck on your search.

I have the original paperwork for my 'Bu, and finding where the original owners had lived was simple (unfortunately the second owner bought the 'Bu at an estate sale as the original owners had passed). Since 9/11 most ownership records are restricted to paying non-public customers at most DMVs. You could search for your car's VIN on the web.

You'll need to start with the person you bought your car from and work backwards from them.

I bought my 66 from the original owner back in 1997. He passed away since. Think about it, my car is 51 years old. I was 20 when the car was built. The original owner was older than me. It's gonna keep getting harder and harder to contact the original owners for that reason.
