Carb Cleaner vs Throttle Body Cleaner - Same?

I'm removing the throttle bodies on my two '03 Camry's for maintenance cleaning. I planned on using spray carb cleaner as I have a lot of that. Heard on some forum that carb cleaner is too harsh and to use spray throttle body cleaner instead. I found cans marked carb / throttle body cleaner - to me I would think both are the same - agree or disagree?

Re: Carb Cleaner vs Throttle Body Cleaner - Same?

I disagree... There are many different formulations, so some may be listed as both carb/TB cleaner, while others may be listed as only carb or only TB cleaners...

I would err on the side of caution, and only use something specifically listed as "Throttle Body Cleaner"...

Ever notice that some products/formulations just work better, and often the ones that work the best get discontinued because they were too harsh on the environment or health...

Re: Carb Cleaner vs Throttle Body Cleaner - Same?

Some throttle bodies have clear coat on them, regular Carb cleaner may dissolve the clear coat, use throttle body cleaner, good luck!
