Bill, you weren't paying attention to the 55" LG above the fireplace when you were here last month, but we were busy talking cars! The picture is so crisp it almost looks 3D and you can make out peoples skin blemishes etc. Takes a little getting used to but you will love it. Only complaint is the speakers are on the bottom facing down and sound can be a little distorted bouncing off the mantle. I guess I need to go get a speaker bar.

Re: Shopping for new 4k TV

What kind of picture do they have when on a standard 480p cable signal?

I looked at some myself, they weren't priced too bad, and like you say the picture is amazing.

Going from wearing no glasses to wearing glasses made the picture much better for me! Saved a lot of money!!!!

Is there that much 4k programming to warrant the change? Most programming is 720.

Netflix has some 4K content. I think 4K Bluray is out soon. DirecTV has a 4K channel as well.

Good point but I'm a sucker for buying the latest tech 'you know be ready when it comes" I bot a 51" projection Sony 1080 capable when it first came out about 2002....... embarrassed to tell you what it cost back then .......... but its still going strong for old tech, now find we go to other rooms to watch TV on our LED sets
ya think time to upgrade

Re: Shopping for new 4k TV

I just picked this up last month when it was $799 shipped to my door, plus the extra warranty. Researched quite a bit and this got such great reviews, has everything I need including the amazon prime app, netflix, etc...only thing it doesnt have is a web browser, but I wasn't worried about it. I dont even have HD thru UVERSE and people who see the clarity say its amazing, great bang for your buck.

Re: Shopping for new 4k TV

From 6 ft away, you can't tell the difference between 4K and 1080p.
Save yourself a ton of money and get a Vizio or LG smart HD TV.
By the time it breaks you will be able to buy the 4K for the same price.
