New car or new to you car? A 21 year old with an ok job can't afford much... is there a budget?

Re: Just For Fun!

I made out all right when I was twenty, bought a 68 El Camino from a tire shop.
Ticket bait orange and black, monster T/As. 350 with a Muncie 4 speed, 3.08 rear.
Went wherever I wanted, good car to learn on, and I learned a lot.
I would still have it if some drunk hadn't rear-ended it. $1500 and well worth it.

Re: Just For Fun!

Ok let me clarify ! Any era, 50's 60's 70's etc. . It has to be a car that was offered from the factory . Remember this is going to be your dailey driver so try to be realistic. The budget ...you can buy new in the era you choose but it's not unlimited .

Re: Just For Fun!

Ok, when I was 19, I ordered my first new car. '68 L79 Malibu, Fathom Blue, black bench seat interior, steel wheels with doggie hubcaps. There's much more to that story, many of you know it.

NOW, if I was 19 again, my first car would be the same one! I'd find one and restore it.

In fact, it's already been found. Only took 40 years to find. Identical to the first one except for the mag wheel hubcaps, and this one has A/C (not that it matters). Check out my profile pic below.

Re: Just For Fun!

Well,

When iIwas 19 i bought my first new car and went this way.

Nissan pulsar (like a sentra in the US)

Reason:

1. race bikes
2. 1 project car
3. 1 track car.

And i like to get to work with AC and no issue from the law.

But if i could go back i would of love to pick a big Mercury (lead sled) for the daily or,

ANY WAGON. because wagons are cool!

When I was 21 I had a 53 Ford 4 door but if I could have afforded a new car it would have been a 1957 chevrolet Bel Air.

Re: Just For Fun!

I turned 21 in 2003... might have been able to find an unsold new '02 Trans-Am WS6 M6

Buying the car would have been one thing, but insurance would have been a deal-breaker.
I bought a house then, at the peak of the market... should have bought the Trans-Am instead.

Re: Just For Fun!

My income when I was 21 adjusted to today would be $65,000 +. That means I could afford anything I wanted. I preferred 57 Chevys, with engine, transmission and rear end mods. Have no regrets about it either.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.
