we went to the last ever showing at a local drive in that was closing for good last fall and went to another in May in another state.
I don't think a Walmart would have the same feel to it.
We still have a drive in, the admiral twin. Opened in 1951 and has run continually since then except when the screens burned down in 2010. Reopened in 2012. Spent many a night in my teenage years there.
I would have bet one near me, however I doubt Walmart is dumb enough to offer movies in my area even if the local governments would go along.
There are three within 10 miles, one has shootings in the parking lot a couple of times a year and was looted a few weeks ago, the second was looted then set on fire the same night, the third has a customer base made up by the dregs of society. I’m thinking either Netflix or Disney plus seem like a better options.
Hmm... apparently I deleted my response yesterday and ended up posting the mafia trunk scene instead.
Anyway, only 320 showings across 160 sites, so that's 2 nights and done. So it won't be enough to start drawing in the dregs of society. But it also greatly limits the number of people that can attend so it's not really creating that much of a benefit.
There was an “adult” drive-in movie theater on the Marin-Sonoma county line years ago. Just off the freeway. It showed porn movies for years.
I think it closed in the early 90’s.
